The Essential Nursing Cart (every mom needs)

I’m a second time mom and like to think I kinda know what I am doing. After all, I am a pediatric nurse and boymom. But this changed everything. In fact, I wish I had thought of it myself. All hail the Queen - Karrie Locher. I have double the respect for her too. Not only did she invent the postpartum/nursing/lifesaving mom cart, she is a nurse herself.

So when nursing wasn’t going well with Fitz - we just aren’t getting there with nighttime stretches, I knew I needed to up my mom-game. Enter the nursing cart.

Not only was this a prime excuse to organize a really cute cart that I have been eyeing for months (I’m going to use this for an art cart in the future!); I knew it would help me level up my nursing game. For the last several days I have been toting around a Trader Joe’s bag with all of my nursing stuff - pump, bottles, water, etc. And everything gets lost in the big bag, plus I am constantly without something I need. This is THE PERFECT SOLUTION.

Here is what I put on my nursing cart and how you can create one too: (Again, I DID not invent this, only wish I had. Karrie Locher has a full download for FREE to share all the things she recommends). This is just what worked for me. I am linking all the things here too and on LiketoKnowit so that you can easily make one for yourself.

Karrie suggests dividing the cart into three sections: Mommy essentials, Pumping/Nursing/Feeding Essentials and Baby Gear.

My mommy essentials include:

For the second tier or Nursing Essentials, here is what I have:

Third Tier:

  • Lots of burp cloths

  • Extra space because I’m sure I will need it later

  • Toys for Tom

I think one of y’all suggested this on a recent instagram poll about what to do with my 18 month old while I’m breast feeding. You guys had some great suggestions and having toys that are “just” for this time was one of them. I now have a place where they are accessible rather than having to go find all thing things while Fitz is losing his mind with hunger. PTL!

The BEST part about this nursing cart (well there are two bests)

  • I don’t have to take time to find all the things every time I need to nurse or pump

  • It moves with me. Whether I am in the nursery, living room, or my own room I have everything I need. GENIUS!

Again, linking all the things I used to create this cart below (including the storage trays to corral your stuff!). I hope this is as helpful to you as it has been for me.

Xx
