How to Measure the Right Way

This may seem like a “duh” thing but this part of picking products and organizing is often overlooked. Here is how to measure for organizing products so that you can:

  • Pick the right size product the first time

  • Stop making so many trips to the store

  • Have bins that actually work in your space

  1. Gather a tape measure and notepad. Clear the area you want to measure.

  2. Measure in inches the height, width (left to right), and depth (back to front) of each cabinet, shelf or drawer. You will want to measure to the nearest 1/4” to ensure proper fit. For cabinets and drawers, make sure you are measuring the interior.

  3. Note any objects that will interfere with product placement. Things like latches, hinges, and wall abnormalities.

  4. Compare your space measurements to product size. Be sure to allow breathing room. For example, if you have 30” across a shelf, your products should only take up around 28” of horizontal space.

I hope this helps you find products that actually fit!
