Organize: Cables + Cords

If you are the proud owner of yet another bin of random cords that will take you hours to untangle and frustrate you so much that you will amazon the cord you need anyway, then this post is for you! Here is a gentle suggestion for how to organize all of your cables and cords so you can actually keep and find what you need and get rid of the rest.

Can you relate?

Like most organizing problems, all you need is a simple system to get the job done. I recently did an Insta survey and y’all said you would pay over $100 just to eliminate your cable and cord stressor. I’m here to show you how to organize your cables and cords for less than $30. All you need is this box and a label maker or a sharpie marker.

  1. Gather all of your bins and boxes of cables and cords. Every.single. one.

  2. Sort your cables and cords into piles of like items. If you don’t have the device the cord goes to, trash it. If you don’t know what it goes to, trash it. If you have ten of the same cord, donate or trash the rest. You do not need 17 iphone chargers. I repeat, you do not need 17 iphone chargers OR the squares that plug into the wall.

  3. Grab a post it and label each cord by type. For example, iphone charger, USB cable, HDMI cable, etc.

  4. Store each cable in an individual 4x6 box and lable appropriately. I prefer to use my label maker but a sharpie works just as well.

  5. Get rid of your cord bins, enjoy your newly orgnaized cords and put things back where you found them. MUAH!
